We are building a new Norwegian ingredient industry
BIO3 is building a facility for the large-scale production of functional feed ingredients for aquaculture. The ingredients are produced through fermentation, where a fungal culture grows on various carbon sources from side streams, efficiently converting them into high-value ingredients.
The result is an ingredient that combines high nutritional value with naturally occurring functional components.
BIO3 is designed for industrial scale from the first phase, with the goal of delivering stable and significant volumes. Fermentation makes it possible to produce feed ingredients continuously throughout the year, regardless of seasonal variations.
The first phase provides an annual production capacity of 31,500 tons, with the potential for further expansion to up to 100,000 tons per year at the same industrial site.
Ready to build
Over several years, BIO3 has developed the project from a concept into a mature industrial project ready for realization.
The production site at NorSea Atlantic in Averøy is secured, with established industrial infrastructure, a deep-water quay, and access to necessary grid capacity. Key government permits, including building and discharge permits, are in place.
Engineering for the first construction phase is complete, and the project has established partners for the design, construction, and financing of industrial infrastructure. In parallel, BIO3 is working with R&D partners and stakeholders in the aquaculture industry on documentation, testing, and large-scale commercialization.
Status
We are ready to begin construction of Phase 1 in 2027.
